What Makes Kernow Gold Unique?
At Kernow Gold, we offer both ready-made ethical gold jewellery and bespoke gold jewellery commissions, all crafted with a deep connection to Cornwall. Our work is shaped by local artisans, including adding Cornish tin inlays to ethically sourced gold to create unique jewellery, steeped in rich Cornish history, with tin sourced from the historic South Crofty tin mine, the last working tin mine in Cornwall. Explore below for the most common questions about our Cornwall gold collections, and other materials such as tin and silver.
COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT JEWELLERY FROM KERNOW GOLD
Is the Gold Used in Your Jewellery Mined in Cornwall?
While there is no active gold mining in Cornwall, gold can still be found in certain rivers where small gold nuggets are sometimes discovered (this may be Cornwall’s best-kept secret!)
However, the quantities are too minimal for commercial use. Instead, we source our gold from ethical suppliers while ensuring our designs and processes remain uniquely Cornish.
Is Cornish Gold Real Gold?
Yes, Cornish gold is 100% real gold. While the actual gold isn't mined from Cornwall, each Cornish gold piece is designed, made, and hallmarked in Cornwall, celebrating the region’s craftsmanship and heritage.
Who Makes Cornish Gold?
We collaborate with local goldsmiths to design and craft our Cornwall gold jewellery. Each custom piece is made in Cornwall, with the added mark of authenticity through our Cornish hallmark. We specialize in combining Cornish tin inlays with ethical gold to create silver and gold pieces that capture the beauty of the region.
Is There Any Gold Left in Cornwall?
Yes, gold can still be found in the rivers of North Cornwall, though in very small amounts. If found, this Cornwall gold is extremely valuable due to its rarity.
Unfortunately, commercial gold mining in Cornwall is no longer viable. However, Cornwall’s mining heritage remains strong. Tolgus Tin Mill, once an essential part of the region’s industry, historically processed large quantities of tin, contributing to Cornwall’s global standing in tin production. Gold was also found there.
While we use South Crofty tin—from the last tin mine to close in Cornwall—for inlays in our jewellery, these sites remind us of Cornwall’s rich industrial past.
How Is a Kernow Gold Design Cornish?
Our designs are deeply inspired by Cornwall’s landscape and heritage. In addition to Cornwall gold commissions, we can include Cornish tin from the historic South Crofty Mine in custom pieces, ensuring a direct link to Cornwall’s rich mining history. Each piece also features a hallmark that marks its Cornish origin, making every item a true reflection of the region.
What Does Ethical Gold Mean?
Our gold comes from trusted suppliers who meet the highest standards for responsible sourcing. We also use recycled gold and expertly set conflict-free diamonds. Our 9ct gold jewellery pieces are supplied by members of the Responsible Jewellery Council, ensuring each step of the process meets global ethical guidelines.
Do You Use Cornish Tin in Your Jewellery?
Yes, we can incorporate genuine Cornish tin from the historic tin mill in our bespoke gold jewellery pieces. The Cornish tin we use comes from the famous South Crofty Mine, making delightful jewellery steeped in rich Cornish history.
Does Kernow Gold Sell Silver Jewellery?
We don’t sell silver jewellery directly on Kernow Gold. However, for those interested, we recommend visiting our sister site, Sennen Jewellery, where you’ll find an exquisite collection of silver items. We also offer Sterling silver for custom commissions upon request.
How Does Kernow Gold Ensure Quality and Authenticity?
Every gold piece we create is meticulously crafted by local artisans, using responsibly sourced materials.
With our careful attention to detail and the inclusion of genuine Cornish tin or Sterling silver when requested, we guarantee both quality and authenticity.
Why Should I Choose Kernow Gold?
Choosing Kernow Gold means choosing jewelry with a story. Our passion for ethical, handcrafted designs is rooted in Cornwall’s culture.
From beautiful gold jewellery pieces to custom silver and gold commissions, you’ll find a personal connection to Cornwall in every piece.
How Does Kernow Gold Source Its Gold, Silver and Tin?
Our gold and silver is ethically sourced from UK suppliers who prioritize responsible mining practices. We can also source recycled gold and silver.
This ensures that while gold mining may no longer be active in Cornwall, every Kernow Gold piece is made with the highest standards of sustainability in mind. We have access to a very limited supply of genuine Cornish tin from the South Crofty mine.
